Day 1, Bangkok Meals(-/-/-)
Met at the airport upon arrival for transfer to hotel accommodation
and check in.
Participants will have a tour briefing after arrival.
Rest of day at leisure.
Day 2, Bangkok / Chiang Mai Meals (B/-/-)
An early morning excursion by boat on Bangkok's canals and
along the way enjoy the fine scenery and observe the daily
activities of the Thai people who live along the canals.
Afternoon at leisure. Transfer to the railway station for
the overnight train to Chiang Mai.
Day 3, Chiang Mai Meals (-/-/-)
Arrive Chiang Mai in the morning and transfer to the hotel.
The rest of the day at leisure.
Day 4 On Trek Meals: BL D
At 0830 pick up from your hotel by your expert trekking
guide. Drive to Amphur Phrao, about 1 1/2 hours drive. On
the way we will stop at the Hilltribe Museum in Mae Rim.
Your guide will inform you about the tribes you meet over
the next few days: Akha, Karen, Lisu, Hmong and Lahu.
On the way we will stop for coffee and for
some shopping. After lunch we walk about 3 1/2 hours through
the forest to our first destination of this trek, which
is Phu Kham Pen, a village of the Akha tribe, the most primitive
and charismatic tribe in Thailand. The Iko are one the most
interesting tribes living in South East Asia due to their
very strong traditional beliefs. The women wear characteristic
headdresses ornamented with coins. Your guide will tell
you about their customs and traditions.
Dinner and overnight in the Akha village.
Day 5 On Trek Meals: B L D
After breakfast we pack and start walking. We will walk
about 30 mins. to the Red Lahu (Lahu Nyi) village Sit Lung.
We continue our trek, stopping at the Mae Toe waterfall
where we will have lunch. In the afternoon we will trek
about 4 hours through idyllic scenery of forest and rice
fields. We spend the night at the Red Lahu village Mae Toe.
Most Lahu live in Yunnan, in South China. A sizeable group
lives in Myanmar. In Vietnam they are a very small minority.
In Thailand they are also known as "Musser".
Day 6 On Trek Meals: B L D
Wake up with the roosters. Enjoy breakfast and start trekking.
This morning we will walk about 3 hours. After lunch we
walk about 3 hours to the Black Lahu (Lahu Na) village where
we will spend the night. This evening you will visit a local
house and meet with some of the villagers who will tell
you about their history and traditions.
Day 7 On Trek Meals: B L D
After breakfast we walk about 2,5 hours to a Hmong village.
The Hmong live in China, Vietnam, Laos and Myanmar. The
Hmong have a turbulent recent history, notably those living
in Laos.
After lunch walk for 2.5 hours to a White Karen Village
Hui Mae Dae. In the evening you will visit a local house
and learn about the history of the Karen. The Karen people
live in Myanmar and in Western Thailand. They are the only
minority in Thailand keeping elephants although the Karen
in Viang Pa Pao province don't have any. They have been
struggling for an independent state in Myanmar for decades.
Have dinner and overnight at the village.
Day 8 On Trek Meals: B L D
After breakfast walk 3 hours to a Karen Village. After lunch
2.5 hours to a White Karen village, Pa Yin, where will spend
the night.
You will be invited to assist preparing dinner tonight.
You will learn about traditional herbs and spices. Dinner
tonight will be original Karen staple.
Day 9 On Trek Meals: B L
After breakfast we will walk for 2 hours to the Lisu Village
Patung. The Lisu are a Tibeto-Burman ethnic group who inhabit
the mountainous regions of Myanmar, Southwest China, Thailand
and the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh. The women wear
beautiful colourful dresses.
Here we will be picked up for the drive back to Chiang Mai.
Along the way we will have a picnic lunch at the wonderful
Buatong waterfall. You can walk up this multi-tiered waterfall.
Continue to Chiang Mai. Drop off at the hotel.
Day 10, Chiang Mai Meals (B/-/-)
Morning free, with an afternoon drive up to Doi Suthep Wat.
The temple is located 15 km from the city of Chiang Mai
and is a sacred site to many Thai people. From the temple
impressive views of Chiang Mai can be seen.A visit to the
Elephant centre with an option of a trek on an Elephant.
Day 11, Chiang Mai / Bangkok (B/-/-)
.At leisure until time for transfer to the airport for flight
to Bangkok. Upon arrival transfer to hotel accommodation.
Afternoon visit to the lively markets of Kao San Road.
